Czech Seed Glass Beads

Beaded panelSeed beads are uniformly shaped  beads. Their  size varies from under a millimeter to several millimeters. Term “Seed Beads” is used for any small bead. They are generally used for embroidering on the cloth, braiding crochet with fiber or soft, flexible wire. They also may be used as spacers between other beads and natural stones in jewelry.

The most popular glass seed beads manufacturers are Czech Republic and Japan. The Japanese seed beads are more uniform in size, shape, and finish than Czech glass beads, but the Japanese make fewer styles. At the same time Czech glass beads have the best price/quality relationship.

The Czech glass seed beads production process requires attention and skill. The glass is fused in ovens or over open flames. Then the fused glass is slightly cooled. Then it’s extended in a long thin thread. For this purpose the special installation with compressed air is used. Glass passes (as though “filters”) through an aperture in a bottom of the device, forming a threadlike tube. The form of these apertures defines the form of the future beads. The air injected in the aperture center forms in a tubule a cavity, which suppose to be an aperture in the future beads. During the slow lowering the glass thread is  slightly cooled as the furnace is established at rather high level. Then a glass tube is turned horizontally and pulled through the special mechanisms. Diameter of a tubule, and, subsequently, diameter of beads depends on tension force. The strongly a tension is, the more thin a tubule we have. The produced long glass tube is cut on short slices by machine.
